Navy pilots can be selected to do time with the Blue Angels, but when they're done they go back to normal duty, where they could be flying combat at any time. The planes are pretty much dedicated to the Blue Angels, and it would not be cost-effective to convert them to combat duty. They are not updated with the latest weapons systems or avionics that would allow them to be effective in combat. They are generally older planes that have been taken out of military service and used specifically for air shows. The Blue Angels also have a dedicated C-130 that ferries parts and support personnel to their shows.
